Ohio GOP leaders want Gonzalez to resign over Trump impeachment vote

Cincinnati Enquirer COLUMBUS – The Ohio Republican Party s leaders have called on Rep. Anthony Gonzalez to resign for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump, a stunning rebuke of one of their own. On Friday, the party s governing board called on Gonzalez, R-Rocky River, to resign in a divided vote. They also voted to censure Gonzalez and nine other members of Congress for their votes to support the unconstitutional, politically motivated impeachment proceeding against President Donald J. Trump, according to the resolution. Gonzalez was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, which left five people dead. He is the third to be censured for the vote by his state party, following Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney and South Carolina Rep. Tom Rice.

Former PUCO chairman Sam Randazzo offloading property after FBI raid

After FBI agents searched his German Village condo in November, attorney Samuel Randazzo began off loading real estate holdings worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. In February, he transferred ownership of a house in the Columbus suburb of Grandview that he bought in 2013 for $346,000 to Samuel Brewster Randazzo for no money. In March, he sold a house in nearby Marble Cliff for $615,950, less than five months after buying it for $600,000. Randazzo is in contract to sell his 2,836-square-foot waterfront condo in Naples for an estimated $3.9 million, according to Redfin.  Randazzo resigned as chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio in November, following the FBI raid and a disclosure by FirstEnergy Corp. that it paid $4.3 million in January 2019 to an unnamed individual who subsequently was appointed as a state utility regulator.

The American Petroleum Institute gave nearly $1 5M to help block House Bill 6 nuclear bailout

COLUMBUS – A trade organization for the oil and gas industry helped bankroll dark money groups trying to block Ohio s $1 billion nuclear bailout, newly available tax records show. The American Petroleum Institute, a U.S. trade association for the oil and natural gas industry, gave nearly $1.5 million to two dark money groups that tried to stop House Bill from becoming law, according to the association s tax form published by Environment & Energy Publishing. In 2019, API gave $975,000 to Ohioans Against Nuke Bailouts and $500,000 to Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts. Both groups are 501(c)(4) nonprofits, which are often called dark money groups because they do not need to disclose their donors.

As speaker, Rosenberger held enormous political power and lived a public life that included an active social media profile, press conferences, a national network of political connections and extensive travel.  Rosenberger resigned April 10, 2018. FBI agents searched his property May 23, 2018. And the Ohio House provided subpoenaed documents to the FBI and media on Aug. 27, 2018. Federal investigators have been looking at Rosenberger s relationship with GOP mega donor Ginni Ragan, his trips with lobbyists, and a lack of action on a payday lending reform bill, which became law after he stepped down.
