ALLEN PARK We already knew who and where the Detroit Lions were playing in 2021. Now we know when they’re playing too. And that might not sound like much of a distinction, but the NFL has done a great job turning its annual schedule release into a prime-time event that draws millions of viewers.
The Lions schedule dropped on Wednesday night, and there’s plenty to glean from the slate, which includes a return to prime-time television.
Sept. 12: 49ers, 1 p.m., Fox

When will
First things first: Don’t expect Jones to have to the gig to open the season.
Bill Belichick is notorious for bringing rookies along slowly and there’s no reason he’d eschew that at the game’s most important position.
“Cam’s our quarterback,” Belichick said hours after drafting Jones. “Whatever time Jarrett (Stidham) or Mac are ready to challenge him and compete, we’ll see how that goes.”

ALLEN PARK The 2021 NFL schedule is set. The draft and free agency are in the books, which means it’s as good as time as any to take a crack at some game-by-game predictions for the Detroit Lions.
This is the first year the NFL’s regular season will expand to 17 games, with the Lions drawing a road trip to face the Denver Broncos through the added contest. Notable highlights for the first campaign of the Brad Holmes-Dan Campbell regime include a Monday Night Football matchup with the Packers in Green Bay in Week 2, the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving and the season finale back at Ford Field against the Packers.

Despite the excitement surrounding the incoming draft class and the revamped roster working with a new coaching staff, the Detroit Lions are facing an uphill climb all throughout the 2021 season.
According to CBS Sports, the Lions are tied for the sixth-toughest schedule based off of their opponents 2020 record.
Their 2021 opponents averaged a .529 winning percentage last season.
