Cuyahoga County leads the state in speed-related crashes. Author: Romney Smith Updated: 6:11 PM EDT May 18, 2021
CLEVELAND It’s no surprise that some Ohio drivers speed. What is surprising is that speed-related accidents maintained similar numbers during the pandemic when fewer people were driving.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in 2019 there were 30,354 speed-related crashes. In 2020, there were 30,120.
Sgt. Ray Santiago, Public Affairs Officer with Ohio State Highway Patrol, says the department has been tracking and analyzing the numbers.
“During COVID times, the vehicular traffic that was on the roadways did seem to be moving a little faster than normal,” says Sgt. Santiago.
