ONE firefighter was injured while responding to a large fire at a chemical plant in Affton, St Louis County, Missouri.
St Louis Public Radio, the fire occurred at about 14:30 local time, on 29 April. News companies report multiple explosions during the fire, at a facility owned by chemical company Manor Chemical. The St Louis County Police Department tweeted at about 17:30 that evening to say that the fire had been extinguished.
The injured firefighter was taken to hospital, according to Matt Coppin, say reports. Coppin is a Lieutenant for public safety agency Metro West Fire Protection District. He was not able to comment on the extent of the firefighter’s injuries, or to say how they were injured.

AFFTON, Mo. (AP) - A firefighter was injured Thursday during a large fire at a chemical plant in eastern Missouri that forced evacuations in nearby neighborhoods.
Fire personnel responded to the scene at the Manor Chemical Plant in Affton, where the fire was reported about 2:45 p.m., authorities said. Witnesses in the area reported hearing several explosions during the fire.
Employees of the plant were evacuated safely and the fire was extinguished by about 5 p.m., said Lt. Matt Coppin of the Metro West Fire Protection District.

The fire burning at a chemical plant in Affton was extinguished Thursday evening after multiple explosions at the plant.
Lt. Matt Coppin with the Metro West Fire Protection District said there were multiple explosions at the Manor Chemical Plant at around 2:30 Thursday. He said a tanker truck, about 10 containers and the chemical plant building were all on fire when crews arrived.
Initially, first responders decided evacuating the area was the higher priority, so firefighters and police officers from nearby departments went door-to-door in the area, telling people to get out of their homes.
