On July 23, 2019, at the Schlachthof club in Hesse, Germany, for the very first time Mike Kerr stepped onto a stage as an abstinent man. The decision to quit drinking, and to forego drugs, had been taken during a break in the recording of Royal Blood’s third album, Typhoons. After boarding a flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, in a bar in Sin City the singer, bassist and keyboardist with one the century’s great British breakout bands arrived at the decision that it was time to stop bending the elbow.

Valentine’s Day celebrations were seen by the student body and NIU faculty, including one couple in the Department of Communication, educators Judy Santacaterina and Matt Swan.
As members of NIU’s faculty for a combined 64 years, Bachelor of General Studies Director and Forensics Coach Judy Santacaterina and Communications Instructor Matt Swan are mainstays of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and have been married for 29 years come May 16, Swan said.
They first met in 1980 at a speech tournament at Rock Valley Community College, and it took ten years before they had their first date, Swan said. Santacaterina asked Swan over for dinner and the relationship took off from there.
People venturing behind the dunes at Norval Park could find themselves facing trespassing changes.
South Kolan Police Station Officer In Charge Matt Swan said the area, zoned for environmental purposes, was owned by a local company and off limits to the general public.
“We’re having people access private property behind the sand dunes between the Kolan River, to the north to Littabella Creek; which is about a 9km stretch of beachfront land,” Sgt Swan said.
“This incident at Norval Park Beach has been occurring over the last few years, obviously more and more people are knowing about it and can access to it …”
