MCHD provides range of nursing services

Editor’s note: This is the second in a series of articles regarding the 2020 annual report from the Meigs County Health Department.
POMEROY Among the services available at the Meigs County Health Department are several which fall under the public health nursing program.
These services include Project DAWN, immunizations, tobacco cessation, communicable disease reporting and other programs and health checks.
Leanne Cunningham is the Director of Nursing at the Meigs County Health Department, with nurse and certified tobacco treatment specialist Sherry Hayman and public health nurse Terri Hoschar, who joined the team in October. Regional Epidemiologist Mikie Strite also works with the Meigs County Health Department.

Chester woman arrested on drug trafficking charge

CHESTER A Chester woman is facing drug charges after a search warrant of a residence on Saturday night.
In an news release, Meigs County Sheriff Keith O. Wood reported that in the late-night hours of Saturday, March 6, agents with the Gallia-Meigs Major Crimes Task Force as well as deputies with his office and officers with the Middleport and Syracuse Police Departments executed a search warrant at 36380 New Hope Road in Chester after a long investigation into the alleged trafficking of illegal narcotics coming from the residence.
Deputies were able to obtain probable cause for the search warrant earlier in the evening and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. According to Task Force Agents, when entry was made into the residence multiple subjects were found to be inside. All subjects were detained at this time and secured while a search of the residence took place.

POMEROY Meigs County authorities are looking for a Langsville man who fled police last week.
Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reported that on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a deputy was on patrol near Ohio 325 and Ohio 124 in Langsville when he observed a dark-colored truck go left of center multiple times.
The deputy ran the license plate number on the vehicle and found the plates on the truck did not match the vehicle. When the deputy activated the cruiser’s lights and siren, the truck began to flee, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The deputy initiated a pursuit on Ohio 124 and then onto Dexter Road. The vehicle was pursued across multiple backroads before driving into a ditch near Harmon Road. The deputy observed a male take off running from the driver’s side of the vehicle and into the woods while a passenger remained in the truck.
