The ‘Cloud PC’ Arrives Microsoft is aiming to revolutionise personal computing once again with the debut of a cloud-based, browser-accessible Windows desktop service. The new solution, Windows 365, kicks off what Microsoft is hoping will be the “cloud PC” era, where your device type and location are no barrier to using your Windows desktop. The forthcoming Windows 365 offering also opens up an array of new opportunities for solution providers, said Melissa Grant, director of product marketing for Microsoft 365. “We think this new category affords a ton of opportunity to our partners,” Grant said. Microsoft unveils Windows 365, a web-streamed virtual desktop service

Microsoft on Wednesday unveiled its new cloud-based Windows 365 service, a simplified virtual desktop solution aimed at meeting hybrid workforce computing needs while creating opportunities for managed services providers and other cloud partners. Windows 365 is a “cloud PC” solution because the virtualized operating system and apps can be streamed in any web browser, and will be available on any PC or mobile device, Microsoft said. The offering is not meant to replace Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Desktop, but should make desktop virtualization an option for a far greater number of businesses, due to its simpler IT deployment and management capabilities, the company said.

Two new advanced specialisations for Microsoft Azure, a revamped Partner Centre portal experience and reduced commercial marketplace agency fees are among the biggest announcements for solution providers this week at Microsoft’s Inspire 2021 partner conference. Held virtually for the second year in a row, Inspire comes as Microsoft has continued to report strong growth across its Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and security businesses with more than 95 percent of the company’s commercial revenue continuing to be “influenced” directly or indirectly by partners.
