Macon-Bibb mayor plans citywide cleanup in April

MACON, Ga. Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller says he s got a quarter of a million dollars set aside to get the city s streets and neighborhoods trash-free.
The city will provide dumpsters, trash bags and some manpower, but they need you to volunteer too.
A city-wide cleanup would mean the world to Raymond Mintz. His street is littered with mattresses, tires and other debris.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) The Brookdale Warming Center received $35,000 in donations Tuesday. Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller says due to the generosity of the community, they haven’t had to use county funds for the center.
“We’re looking forward to the day we could spend money to make more changes in people’s live but we have to come up with a long term solution,” said Mayor Miller.
Southern Trust and Southern Specialty Underwriters raised $10,000. The Peyton Anderson Foundation also donated a $25,000 grant. Mayor Miller says the donations are a big help.
“We were getting to the bottom of the money quite honestly,” said Mayor Miller. “Trying to cut a few corners here, needing more staff when we really couldn’t afford it. So this is very timely on their behalf.”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) Four mass vaccination sites will open across the state Monday, including one in Macon.
Governor Brian Kemp toured the Macon State Farmers Market with Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller and others. Each vaccination site is expected to vaccinate 1,100 people a day, 22,000 a week.
“When we were at the International Convention Center in Fulton County a couple of days ago visiting that site in the heart of the metro Atlanta area they’re doing 500 doses a day so 1,100 is going to help move the needle in Middle Georgia,” said Governor Kemp.
