He was just about to finish his junior year at Mae Jemison High School, and his mom, Brittany Moore, told WAAY 31 that colleges were even interested in him playing for them. On Saturday, Poodaroo died from a gunshot wound, preventing his dreams from ever becoming a reality.

In 1987, Jemison became the first African-American woman admitted into NASA s astronaut training program. After a year of training, Jemison went on to become the first African-American woman astronaut, and in 1992 her accomplishments continued to skyrocket as she became the first African-American woman in space.
