Thatâs how the Atlantic Beach Police Chief Quentin Robinson is describing the day he lost his good friend and fellow brother in blue, Horry County Police Lance Cpl. Melton Gore.
Officials say Gore was struck and killed Tuesday night along Highway 22 while picking up debris along the roadway. He served as an environmental officer with HCPD for over 20 years.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - In the first 12 days of 2021, the Grand Strand and Pee Dee lost three law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
The first death came on New Yearâs Day when Sgt. Gordon Best with the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety lost control of his patrol car on the wet roadways of U.S. 17 and crashed into a utility pole. He died on scene.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel will be lit in blue Wednesday night in honor of an Horry County officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Horry County Police LCpl. Melton Gore was killed Tuesday night when he was hit by a car while removing debris from the roadway near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 31, according to authorities.

Officer Gore served the department for two decades

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– A Horry County police officer was killed in the line of duty Tuesday night. Investigators say 57-year-old Melton Gore was picking up debris on Highway 22 when he was hit by a car.
Officials said that the officer had served the department for more than 20 years in the Environmental Service Unit.
The Horry County Police Department took to Twitter to send condolences out to Officer Gore’s family and friends, while also asking members of the public to keep the department in their thoughts and prayers as they continue to mourn one of their own.
