Mustangs commit big blueliner for 2021/2022 season

The Melfort Mustangs continue to add players to their 2021/2022 team. The team announced 2003-born defenceman Zach Stangness has committed to the Mustangs for the next season. The 6-3, 190 lbs. rearguard out of Strathmore, Alta. began the 2020/2021 season with the Okotoks Oilers in Alberta U18 AAA. Stangness tallied one assist in five games played before the season was put on pause due to COVID-19. In the 2019/2020 season, Stangness played for the Wheatland Chiefs in the Alberta U18 AA ranks. He scored two goals and added 12 assists for 14 points in 31 games. He also added 54 penalty minutes. “Zach is a player that will be great in our own zone. He’s big, strong, and a tough defender,” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said in a recent press release. “He’s got a lot of upside and will be hard to play against.”

Mustangs commit former Trojan for 2021/2022 season

The Melfort Mustangs drove down Highway 3 for their latest player commitment. Lare Pahtayken, a 2003-born defenceman from Onion Lake, Sask., has committed to the Mustangs for the 2021/2022 season. He started this season with the Tisdale Trojans, where he had one assist in three games. “Lare is a versatile player that can play both forward and defence,” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said in a release. “He likes to activate offensively into the play and is a big strong player with lots of skill.” Prior to his time with the Trojans, Pahtayken played the 2019/2020 season with the Golden Rockets of the British Columbia Junior B ranks.

Council waiting for next government announcement before making decision on ice in Melfort

Ice will remain in Melfort’s Northern Lights Palace for the time being. Originally, council was set to vote on Monday, Feb. 1 at their regular meeting whether to remove the ice beginning on Feb. 15. However, there was a delegation from the Melfort Mustangs as they were asking for council to hold off on voting to remove the ice. The team is hoping to bring back some players to begin practicing in hopes of a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season. Mustangs commit forward from Spruce Grove for 2021/2022

Melfort, SK, Canada / CJVR Today s Best Country Feb 4, 2021 2:00 PM The Melfort Mustangs have announced another addition to the team, making it the first forward to commit to the Mustangs for the 2021/2022 season. 2003-born Cody Laliberte of Spruce Grove, Alta. has committed to the Mustangs and is listed as 6’0″ and 174 lbs. He started the season with the CAC Canadians program based out of Edmonton as part of the U18 AAA ranks. He scored once and added two assists for three points before COVID-19 paused the season. “Cody is a player who plays the game at full speed, and were happy to bring him into our program,” said Mustang head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins in a release. “He has great hockey IQ and with his offensive capabilities is a player we look forward to seeing produce in our lineup.”
