Christine Dixon, an educator from Glastonbury, receives her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. A year into pandemic restrictions and with COVID-19 infections on the decline, Gov. Ned Lamont warned recently that Connecticut is wound up “like a tight coil, everyone’s ready to spring.” He urged people to “cool things down a little longer.” But at this point in the pandemic, it’s growing harder to stay coiled up. Hartford s Mercado Popular is promoting local farmers, community art and homemade goods through pop-up markets Here s a look inside

Mercado Popular is a pop-up market and neighborhood farm store in Hartford, located at 111 Allyn Street, in one of the empty, street-level retail spaces below the Hartford Carriage House apartments. The Hartford residents behind the concept, Jocelyn Cerda and Elijah Patterson, are sourcing produce, eggs, dairy products and grains from farmers in the region, as well as other homemade and hand-crafted goods from Hartford-based small businesses, like jewelry, body products, candles, coffee, and macrame. The biweekly farm store is open from 12-4 p.m. on Feb. 27, March 13 and March 27. The co-founders hope to continue this effort more permanently.
