MAC Virtual Artist Talk: Karlyn Atkinson Berg

MacRostie Art Center will host a Virtual Artist Talk event with painter and collage artist Karlyn Atkinson Berg on Wednesday, May 19 from 6-7 p.m. The event will take place online via Zoom, and the public is invited to attend.  In her artwork, Karlyn Berg uses a variety of mediums and materials such as pastel, airbrush, acrylic paint, silkscreen, woodcut, and printed images on paper to create elaborate and dreamlike collages. Learn about her latest series “Unfolding Odyssey” and other works on view at MacRostie Art Center for the month of May. The MAC’s Artist Talks Series takes place on the third Wednesday of each month to provide the public the opportunity to meet and learn about regional artists. Alfredo Gisholt: Rituals of Perception

February 20 - May 1, 2021 From the gallery: “Deborah Colton Gallery is pleased to present Rituals of Perception, an exhibition featuring paintings and works on paper by Alfredo Gisholt. This grand solo exhibition encompasses the entire gallery. The exhibition can be seen online through the gallery’s Viewing Room. Installation and artwork images can be seen through the gallery’s Virtual Slide Show and website. A Virtual Artist Talk and Walking Tour will take place during the exhibition. Questions or interest in specific artworks can be addressed by email, phone or “By Appointment” at Deborah Colton Gallery. The Gallery hours remain Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. The exhibition is in conjunction with Forma 110 – Mariana Valdes Art Promotion.

Next Best Thing | February 17, 2021 February is Black History Month, and there are several local opportunities to be entertained and informed this month and well beyond. This Thursday at 6:30 p.m., the WSU Office of Diversity and Inclusion presents Dr. Robert E. Weems, Jr. who you know as a commentator for KMUW’s Past & Present giving a keynote address titled “Whatever Happened to ‘Black Capitalism?’ The Decline of Public Discussion About African American Economic Development Since the 1960s.” Register for this live stream event at wichita.edu/diversitylectureseries. On Friday, Friends University is hosting the Black Artist Series with virtual community workshops and masterclasses offered throughout the day. The impressive lineup of presenting guest artists will cover topics like African Americans in Theatre, Crafting Your Career, and Industry Q&A’s.
