The Strickland administration has known for at least three years Mike Rallings was retiring this month. Outgoing police directors give three years’ notice by virtue of enrolling in the city s deferred retirement plan - known as DROP.
Rallings gets a nice chunk of money when he leaves next week, and in return the city gets a nice heads up to find his replacement. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The City of Memphis released a list of finalists to succeed Mike Rallings as director of the Memphis Police Department.
Rallings is set to retire April 14.
The city leaned on the International Association of Chiefs of Police to find candidates. Interviews will occur in the coming weeks, and a decision is expected next month.

Patric Ferguson, 29, is accused of forcing the victim,
Robert Howard, 30, into his squad car at gunpoint outside of his home. He then drove him down the street and shot him.
Howard s girlfriend reported him missing and was able to track his cellphone, which she found on the side of the road.
Investigators said that the shooting was captured on surveillance cameras and that Ferguson used his phone to search for information about cleaning up a crime scene and destroying DNA evidence. They also discovered that he purchased cinder blocks, chains, and other items used to dispose of the body, which was located near a bridge.
