Watertown man admits to federal heroin possession, firearm charges

WATERTOWN — A city man faces up to 20 years in federal prison after admitting Monday that he possessed heroin and an illegal shotgun in a self-storage unit in the town of Watertown. Daniel J. Borg, 43, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, to possession of controlled substances (heroin/fentanyl and eutylone) with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors said that as part of his guilty plea, Mr. Borg admitted that on Jan. 21, 2021, he was in possession of 305 grams of eutylone, also known as bath salts, as well as 30 separate bags of a heroin/fentanyl mixture in an Audi automobile that he parked at a self-storage area on outer Coffeen Street, where he leased a unit.

Smith was not hurt. According to city police, Brandon drove to the 100 block of California Avenue and, shortly before 9 p.m., fired the gun and fled the scene. The house next door at 121 California appeared to have been struck by a stray bullet, they said. Police said Brandon and Smith know each other, but wouldn’t comment on a motive.

Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force seizes heroin, cash at Clayton apartment

CLAYTON — The Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force seized a large quantity of heroin Tuesday during the execution of a search warrant at a Joseph Lonsway Drive apartment. The task force said in a statement Friday that the execution of the warrant and the drug seizure was the result of an investigation into alleged activity at 100 Joseph Lonsway Drive, Apt. 114A, over several months. When police entered the apartment at about 11:30 a.m., two males and two females were inside. The scene and the occupants were secured without incident, the statement said. During the search, police allegedly recovered 604 glassine envelopes containing heroin, about 8 grams of a substance believed to be synthetic narcotics, about 8½ grams of an unknown substance, three digital scales, numerous items of drug paraphernalia and $1,873 in cash.
