If the forecast holds true you may be doing something you haven’t done in a while, namely working up a good sweat! Next weeks 50 degree predictions are one thing but the real reason is that March ice fishing is getting hot!

Imagine your first drop of a jig through the ice on massive Lake Winnipesaukee and coming tight to a 2 1/2 pound white perch! Odds are pretty good that subsequent drops would be largely anticlimactic but for Clamcorp Pro-team member “Drew”, while fishing with Tim Moore of
TimMooreOutdoors, the fun was just getting started! White perch fishing is at its peak on Lake Winnipesaukee and not very far behind is some impressive fishing for lake trout and cusk! Tim and the Clam crew are cranking them in from only 30’ of water in shallow basins. Smelt stuck below Clam Tip-ups are working as is jigging Clam pink blade spoons.

Henry H. Wildes Jr. and Sharon M. Wildes sold the Pressey House, at 32 Belgrade Road, to Ronald and Nicole Goodheart for an undisclosed price. The list price was $649,000. John McCarthy of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Real Estate represented the sellers and Jordan Stolt of Summit Real Estate represented the buyers in the deal. Also participating in the transaction were Andy Rhoades of Kennebec Saving Bank and attorney Jerome Gamache.
Located at the north end of Messalonskee Lake, the house was built between 1854 and 1858 by H.T. Pressey. It was put on the National Register of Historical Places in 1977, according to the inn’s website.

SnowFest includes a series of activities, including the only equestrian skijoring race in the Northeast which involves a horse and rider pulling a snowboarder or an Alpine skier down a 1,000-foot track of gates and jumps.

CANAAN Les Perry and his son, Brian, stood Sunday on the snow-covered ice at Lake George for the Somerset SnowFest Fishing Derby, hoping to catch landlocked salmon, trout, bass or perch.
Sidney nonprofit granted funds to create access to Messalonskee Lake

The Friends of Messalonskee has been awarded a $12,500 grant from the Roger N. Heald Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. This grant will enable Friends of Messalonskee to begin an Invasive Plant Paddle program to educate community members, particularly the underserved, who might not otherwise have access to the lake, according to a news release from nonprofit, based out of Sidney.
With the grant money, Friends of Messalonskee will purchase kayaks, paddles and life jackets for six participants at a time to get out on the lake. Friends’ volunteers will be trained as Plant Paddle Leaders who will help community members learn to safely maneuver a kayak, identify plant species, wildlife, and become good stewards of the watershed area.
