Multiple outlets are reporting that a student from LSU died trying to help rescue a young boy from rip currents in the Gulf of Mexico. According to our media partners at KATC-TV3, two Nicholls State University students were injured in the rescue efforts. See the report from our media partners @KATCTV3 on Twitter below. According to the above report, the incident happened off of Miramar Beach, FL and was not an isolated incident, as rip currents have pushed local rescue authorities to their limits in recent days. The 21-year-old, Layne Gravois, was taken from the water off of the beach and later died according to deputies of the Walton County Sheriff s Office. The above report adds that two more men, who attend Nicholls State University, were hospitalized as they were trying to assist in the rescue of the young boy.
