BREMER COUNTY
Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District is holding a General Obligation Bond Special Election.
The bond vote will decide whether the District will be authorized to provide funds to improve school buildings and construct two new elementary school buildings.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Unofficial results: Public Measure BW passes with 72.32% voting yes. 60% was needed to pass.
The Town Council has given staff the go-ahead to complete design and prepare for construction of a signal-protected crosswalk on Saguaro Blvd. between Desert Vista and Panorama Drive.
Fairfield seeks funds for former bowling alley site project
FAIRFIELD Strings attached to various funding sources could leave a money gap to build out the full vision the city has for the old Fairfield Bowl site on North Texas Street.
The City Council on Tuesday agreed to submit an $8.5 million application to the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program to fund the Linear Park Trail Revitalization – Node 4A Project.
The city had applied during a previous round of funding, but the project was not chosen. State officials advised Fairfield not to include the recreation facility in its next application.
Commissioners approve annexation to Russia
SIDNEY – The Shelby County commissioners approved the annexation of 14.899 acres to the village of Russia among its recent actions.
On Jan. 7, the commissioners approved the annexation as petitioned by O’Francis Properties, LLC, and Daniel and Bonnie Paulus.
In other action, the commissioners held their annual re-organizational meeting on Jan. 7 and elected Anthony Bornhorst as president for 2021. Julie Ehemann was elected vice president for 2021.
The commissioners established open meeting hours for 2021 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until the completion of business.
The commissioners authorized advertising for bids for the 2021 roadside mowing program on Jan. 14. Bids will be opened at 11 a.m. Feb. 11.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas A long awaited drainage project got the nod of approval from city leaders this week.
City council awarded $2.3 million to design the La Volla Creek Drainage Improvement Project near Airport Road and North Padre Island Drive.
In recent years, the La Volla Creek watershed has experienced frequent flooding during heavy rains.
Flooding occurred at La Volla creek during May 2015 and 2016, June 2018, and September 2018.
