Husband and wife coaching duo Joel and Ashley Ayers have been tapped to take the reins of the Riverdale girls basketball program.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Principal Tamera Blair. Joel will be the head coach while his wife Ashley will join the staff as an assistant. They come from Dyersburg after taking over the program there for former Riverdale coach Randy Coffman back in 2015.
They take over for Amy Josephson, who resigned last month.

In a rather abnormal year, the Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders returned to a sense of normalcy here Saturday night.
Middle Tennessee (17-7) captured the Conference USA Championship with a riveting 68-65 win against defending champion Rice at the Ford Center at The Star. It marks the Lady Raiders third C-USA championship in four title game appearances and their first since 2016.
Overall, it is the 16th conference tournament title in program history and the eighth in head coach Rick Insell s 16 seasons. The Lady Raiders punched their ticket into the NCAA Tournament for 19th time in program history and the 10th time under head coach Rick Insell.

Blackman won their third Class AAA state championship since 2014 Saturday evening, defeating Lebanon 64-56:
It s the Lady Blaze third state title since 2014 and the first for veteran coach Jennifer Grandstaff. She spent many of her 30-years in coaching at Oakland but felt an itch to get back in after a year and a half retirement:
Senior Iyana Moore has 17-points in the game and was named the tournament MVP. She had to leave the game early in the fourth quarter due to an injury but came in about three-minutes later.
A strong fourth quarter by Blackman propelled them past Maryville and into the Class AAA state championship game:
Blackman had to play the last nearly five-minutes without standout Iyana Moore, who fouled out of the game and pouring in 17 points.
Coach Jennifer Grandstaff says her team showed a lot of composure:
Maryville led nearly 19-minutes of the game and got within four late in the game, but Blackman closed out the game on an 11-0 run to reach the state title game for the first time .

The Blackman girls punched their ticket to the Class AAA Girls State semifinals with win over Arlington Thursday night from MTSU s Murphy Center:

Blackman had to wait until late Wednesday night to see who their opponent would be since the TSSAA removed Arlington from the playoffs after an alleged assault of the opposing coach in a region game. A Shelby County judge reversed the TSSAA s decision late Wednesday.
