WESTWOOD VILLAGE ROBBERY: Police are investigating a reported armed robbery at the Westwood Village
Rite Aid store right now; a note on the door indicates it’s closed until 1 pm as a result. We’re hoping to get more information at the scene but in the meantime, police-radio exchanges indicate the robber(s) are believed to have escaped in a light-blue small-SUV-type vehicle last seen eastbound on SW Barton, and that this could be related to similar robberies in the region.
ADDED 3:48 PM: From the preliminary police summary:
At approximately 10:22, officers responded to a robbery at the Rite Aid located at 2600 SW Barton Street. Witnesses described the (robber) as a juvenile male between the age of 14 and 18. The (robber) jumped over the pharmacy counter, demanded Promethazine and Codeine, and threatened the victims with a firearm. The (robber) was armed with a handgun. Victims complied and provided the (robber) with an unknown amount of product.

Robbing a store that is almost in the parking lot of a police station and asking police to retrieve your jacket from a stolen vehicle… I’m staring to wonder how our species made it to the moon. Bummer about the Admiral businesses, a lot of these places are trying to do good and get by at the same time.

That Home Depot deals with robbers and shoplifters all the time, despite having a police station in the parking lot. Most of the people who work there will tell you the police response time is not good and never has been, which is probably one of the reasons the proximity doesn’t make a difference to the thieves. I’m a little surprised they actually caught one, to be honest, given the track record at that store.

Story 1: Horrible. I would be willing to donate for them to put a more permanent kind of sign in place or even just to replace it (again). Sigh. People are messed up.Story 2 and 3: the drug problem is out of control. both situations scream major desperation to continue their addiction.

I graduated from gatewood the class of 2012 and they were amazing with the diversity and I know they still are. I would love to help make signs because it’s such an important message, especially for kids that are young

Hello Guy, sorry to hear about your break-in. Can you tell us how they got into your garage? It may help others including myself improve our garage security.

I am sorry about the break-in, but it sounds like someone looking for items to keep themselves warm and dry during the winter. We do not know the motivations of the individual involved, but we need to show some compassion for those without the comforts of a home.

I suspect it was my own stupidity, I took out the trash late at night and might have forgotten to close the garage door behind me – at least that’s my guess. Same thing happened to my neighbor a few months back (he had a security camera recording the whole thing but I don’t think the person was ever caught). Interestingly, both of our garages are not visible from the stre
