State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, and AARP to hold Town Hall on financial abuse of older adults

Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, and AARP. According to the Public Policy Institute of California, the state’s population age 65 and older will nearly double by 2030, increasing by four million people– all the while becoming more racially and economically diverse. “As this demographic shift occurs and this population grows, so too does the threat and frequency of financial abuse of older adults,” said Treasurer Ma. She hopes the event will serve as an educational forum that fosters dialogue between financial abuse experts and older Californians – as well as those who love and care for them. The 75-minute town hall will provide information about common forms of financial abuse, red flags to look out for, and how to protect yourself and your loved ones. The forum will also focus on how our increasing isolation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has made older Californians more vulnerable to financial abuse.

State Warns Of Increasing Fraud Surrounding COVID-19

State Warns Of Increasing Fraud Surrounding COVID-19 ALTSD News: NEW MEXICO As the number of people and communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic grows, so do the scams associated with it. Scammers use public health emergencies as opportunities for new fraud schemes, and because older adults are at greater risk for serious illness from COVID-19, they may target older populations. It’s important to remember that although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public health officials including state contact tracers may contact you if they believe you may have been exposed to the virus, they will not need to ask you for insurance or financial information.

After slow holiday week, Idaho COVID-19 cases jump to more than 1,500 on Tuesday Nicole Blanchard and Jacob Scholl, The Idaho Statesman Dec. 30 After several days of relatively low numbers of reported COVID-19 cases, Idaho s new confirmed and probable caseload leapt to more than 1,500 cases on Tuesday. Idaho health officials reported 1,130 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide on Tuesday and 416 probable cases, for a total of 1,546 new cases. The uptick in reported cases comes as the state s daily case count, moving averages and other key metrics such as test positivity rate have been declining. Ada County alone reported 471 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Tuesday as officials with Boise-based Central District Health work to clear a backlog of data dating back several weeks.
