58% of people in Oman dealt with banking frauds By: Times News Service Muscat: The recent Kaspersky survey showed that 58 per cent of people in Oman dealt with the fraudsters who were trying to steal money, bank card details, internet banking credentials in 2020. 45 per cent of respondent’s encountered scammers themselves, 12 per cent said it was their loved ones who had interacted with criminals and the other 1 per cent marked both categories. According to the survey, the fraudsters’ criminal attempts increased in 2020, 46 per cent of respondents consider that scammers had targeted them or their loved ones more frequently during the coronavirus pandemic and self-isolation. Scammers exploited different ways and statements in their manipulations to reach victims.

Attackers may exploit these vulnerabilities to locally escalate to kernel-mode privilege on Dell PCs, laptops, and servers. The full list of affected devices is listed on the Dell website. In his report, Senior Security Researcher at SentinelOne Kasif Dekel said that the flaw is a combination of five vulnerabilities collectively called CVE-2021-21551 that exists in the dbutil 2 3.sys driver. Four of the flaws lead to privilege escalation with the last leading to a denial of service.

These high-severity vulnerabilities, which have remained present and undisclosed for 12 years in Dell devices for 12 years, affect hundreds of millions of devices and millions of users worldwide.
