Fire and Emergency crews were called to deal with a tree that came down on SH1 south of Hamilton
A car has crashed into a tree that fell over State Highway 1, just south of Hamilton, blocking both lanes. One person in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened at 12.20pm near the intersection with Newell Rd, Senior Sergeant Craig Singer of the Hamilton police said. Motorists in the area have been warned to expect “significant delays” while the tree was cleared from the road.

A service station in Ōtorohanga has been robbed. Police were called after a man entered the store on Te Kanawa St about 8.55pm on Sunday. He was armed with a weapon and threatened someone before leaving with a sum of cash, Senior Sergeant Craig Singer said. Police are investigating.
Two shops in Waikato have been robbed of cigarettes in the past 24 hours. In the latest incident, police were called to a dairy on Rimu St in Hamilton about 7.45am on Tuesday, Senior Sergeant Craig Singer said. A man entered the shop and threatened the shopkeeper before stealing cigarettes. Police are still searching for the man. On Monday another shop was robbed in Waharoa, near Matamata. Police were called to the shop on Seddon St about 6.10pm, a police spokeswoman said. Three people were reported to have entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing in a vehicle.

A man who showed up uninvited at a Te Kūiti home allegedly put one of the occupants in hospital with a facial injury. He’s been charged in relation to an “incident in the driveway of the King Country home on Saturday morning, Senior Sergeant Craig Singer of the Waikato District Command Centre said. “One of the occupants received a reasonably significant laceration to their face.” Police were called to a house on the northeastern side of the town not long before 8am on Saturday, where a man had been injured.
