Supervisors pull plug on Solano Senior Coalition

Supervisors pull plug on Solano Senior Coalition FAIRFIELD Solano County supervisors agreed Tuesday that the Senior Coalition of Solano County, as Chairman John Vasquez suggested, has “outlived its usefulness.” In a unanimous vote, the board declassified the Senior Coalition as an advisory board and discontinued any funding after June 30. The decision will save the county general fund $56,800 annually. “This is a very difficult decision being made,” Supervisor Jim Spering said. However, there are more than a few members or former members of the coalition who contacted the Daily Republic and believe this is what the county administration has wanted for several years.

Supervisors consider changes with county Senior Coalition

Supervisors consider changes with county Senior Coalition FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors will consider recommendations Tuesday that would include no longer funding the Senior Coalition of Solano County. “The report recommendations allow the Senior Coalition to continue with its current contract funding of $30,221 for a coordinator until June 30, 2021,” the staff report to the board states. “The remaining $26,579 budgeted for (fiscal year) 2020-21 would remain unspent and return to the general fund. Additionally, the report recommends eliminating the $56,800 of general fund going annually toward the Senior Coalition of Solano County starting in (fiscal year) 2021-22.” The coalition’s role as an advisory board to the supervisors would be absorbed by the Area Agency on Aging.
