VA Clinic schedules walk-in COVID vaccination clinic

CLARKSBURG — Area U.S. military veterans can get their COVID-19 vaccinations next weekend in Clarksburg. The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg is offering a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Saturday, March 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to all veterans age 50 and older. To receive the free COVID-19 vaccine, veterans are asked to present their VA card and are encouraged to wear a short-sleeved shirt. No appointment is necessary to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, however, veterans must be an enrolled veteran and 50 years old and older. Veterans can enroll as a VA patient online at clarksburg.va.gov/patients or contact enrollment at 304-623-3461, extension 3332 or 3590.

Hermiston native inducted into Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame

Garrard, 42, of Lakeside, Arizona, is the son of Gary and Deanna Garrard of Hermiston. He serves as the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program workforce specialist in the Workforce Development Administration within the Northeastern Arizona Department of Economic Security, providing assistance to veterans experiencing barriers to employment, including custom resumes, job searches, job interview assistance, individual employment plans, and Veterans Tool Kit assistance. Garrard served 20 years in aircraft maintenance in the Air Force, retiring in 2017. Beginning in November of that year in his current role, he covers the communities of Globe, Payson, Springerville, Eagar, Holbrook, Show Low, Snowflake,Taylor, Pinetop-Lakeside, and the White Mountain Apache tribe.

Travelers along U.S. 29 have come to know the Huey helicopter that sits outside Saunders Construction in Arrington. The iconic Vietnam-era chopper has found a temporary home there since it was brought to Nelson County more than a year ago. Frequent users of the roadway, however, might have noticed more than a few new additions to the Saunders Construction parking lot in recent weeks, and passers-by are stopping by to see for themselves, according to Nelson County resident and Vietnam veteran Larry Saunders. Some area veterans are stopping to see the vehicles and reflect on their own service, Saunders said.

WWII Vet Celebrates 94th Birthday Flying In Rare Airplane | 103 7 WQOL

Norman Langeliers just turned 94 and thanks to the nonprofit Grounded No More Inc, he was able to take a flight in a rare aircraft, a Fairchild PT-26 trainer built in 1943 named “Amazing Grace.” The plane took off in Mesa, Arizona, with Grounded No More’s CEO Tony Anger as pilot as Langelier’s family members, friends and Patriot Guard Riders cheered. Anger and his team of volunteers spend their weekends honoring those who served our country and Langelier was the nonprofit’s 430th veteran flight.
