The police recovered knives, clothes stuffed with glass pieces and a few sharp wooden objects in a search at the District Prison here after a group of 21 prison inmates assaulted two inmates and some prison and police personnel in the prison here on Sunday.
Talking to reporters on Monday, Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said that Sameer, an accused in a robbery case, and 20 others attacked Ansar, an accused arrested last month by the Moodbidri Police and Jainuddin, an accused involved in dacoities.

Man sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping minor

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court 1, Savitri Venkataramana Bhat on Thursday sentenced Shashi Kumar (29) to 10 years imprisonment and imposed on him fine of ₹1.10 lakh after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl. According to the charge-sheet filed by the Moodbidri Police, the minor girl was in the habit of going to the house of Shashi Kumar, her distant relative, to watch television.
In November 2017, Shashi Kumar sexually assaulted her when nobody was in the house.
The incident came to light when the girl’s parents took her to the Government Lady Goschen Hospital where doctors found that she was pregnant.

A complaint has been registered against vice-president of the BJP district unit Jagadish Adikari over his statement that is said to have defamed Billava community and the revered twins Koti Chennayya.
Raju P.K., president of Brahmashri Guru Narayana Swamy Seva Sangha, has accused Mr. Adhikari of abusing Koti Chennayya and also insulting the Billava community.
He has accused Mr. Adhikari of provoking breach of peace by making such statements.
The Moodbidri Police registered Mr. Raju’s complaint accusing Mr. Adhikari of offences under Sections 295 (A) and 505 of Indian Penal Code.
Mr. Adhikari made the statement in a meeting of the association of hereditary trustees of temples and other religious institutions a week ago.
