Jinnah Hospital OPD shut after rise in corona cases

LAHORE:The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC&MED) has ordered closure of Out-Patient Department (OPD) of Jinnah Hospital Lahore in view of rising cases of coronavirus in Lahore.
Secretary SHC&MED Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan said that the staff, doctors and paramedical staff deputed in OPD of Jinnah Hospital would be utilised for the healthcare of corona patients. He said that all government private medical colleges, medical universities, central colleges, nursing schools/colleges and paramedical schools/colleges have also been closed since April 12 (Monday) for 10 days while examinations of MBBS and BDS shall continue to be conducted as per schedule. He said that sports and cultural activities have also been banned in these institutions. “The necessary instructions have been issued to the heads of all institutions,” he added.

Sindh Education and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani has said positive coronavirus cases in educational institutions of the province stand at 2.7 per cent, and the government could not have waited till this percentage exceeded 10 per cent before suspending classroom teaching in schools and colleges.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Monday, he said the suspension of in-person classroom teaching of students of up to Class 8 would damage the cause of education, but in no way could the government do any compromise on the health of the children.
He said all such extraordinary steps of the Sindh government related to the education sector had been purely taken out of compulsion. One person has been injured in a crash between a car and truck which saw one lane of a state highway in Tauranga shut down.
The incident on State Highway 2 Hewletts Rd just before 3pm yesterday sparked a fire within the car which was extinguished.
Photographs show the bonnet, front window, and driver s seat of the minivan burnt out and parked half on the bus lane of Hewletts Rd.

Ranchi: Instead of waiting for directives from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), many schools have decided not to start offline classes from Monday. Following the directives of the Centre and the state, the schools had earlier agreed to conduct offline classes for senior students from the fresh session. But given the unprecedented surge in Covid cases, they have decided not to risk the health of students.
Bishop Westcott group of schools has already circulated a message to the students to this effect informing that online classes will continue for Classes KG to X. Sixteen staff members of the group’s girls’ school in Namkom were found infected after a parent-teacher meeting in the second half of March.
Businesses to remain shut on Friday, Sunday in Sindh as coronavirus cases rise

Businesses across Sindh will remain closed on Fridays and Sundays, the Sindh government said Monday, following an increase in the country s coroanvirus infections.
The Home Department, in a notification issued Monday, said grocery shops, medical stores, dairy shops, and other businesses that fall under the category of essential services will be exempted from the restriction. Keeping in view the feedback from field formations on implementation of two safe days per week where different business within same locality/premises are observing different safe days in a week and therefore, the need to avoid confusion and implementation issue the two days Friday and Sunday are declared as safe days for all businesses except essential services, the notification said.
