Karachi ATC indicts five for attacking Chinese Consulate

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday framed charge against five suspects for allegedly facilitating an attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi in 2018.
The accused include Ahmed Hasnain, Muhammad Aslam, Nadir Khan, Ali Ahmed and Abdul Latif, who are said to be associated with the ethnic insurgent group the Balochistan Liberation Army. They were taken into custody by the Counter-Terrorism Department in January 2019 for allegedly providing tactical and logistics support to the attackers.
According to the investigation officer, Latif and Aslam had confessed to the crime before a judicial magistrate a week after their arrest. However, during the hearing at the ATC-VII, all of the accused denied the charges and opted to contest the case. LAHORE: The annual elections for district and tehsil bar associations were held across the province on Saturday.
Malik Sarood of the Independent Group, famously known as the late Asma Jahangir group, was elected president of the Lahore Bar Association in a one-on-one contest, securing 2,544 votes against 2,503 of Rao Sami of the Hamid Khan-led Professional Group.
After the announcement of the results, lawyers celebrated victories of their candidates on different seats and resorted to aerial firing besides dancing to drumbeats.
Rana Shahid Hussain and M.H. Shaheen were elected vice presidents with 2,410 and 2,201 votes, respectively. Rana Kausar Sulehri and Irfan A. Khichi were elected on one each seat of vice president from Model Town courts and Cantonment courts, respectively.

Inquiry reveals illegal mining contract was awarded in Rajoa, Chiniot areas

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), has filed a corruption reference against former minister for mines and minerals Sibtain Khan along with eight others involved in illegally granting of a multi-billion contract in connivance with the Management of Punjab Mineral Development Corporation (PUNJMIN).
As per the reference details, the anti-graft’s Combined Investigation Team (CIT) launched a thorough probe over an alleged loop-sided agreement after being referred from Lahore High Court (LHC) that a mining agreement between ERPL and PUNJMIN’s management for mining of huge iron ore deposits comprising 500 metric tonnes located in Rajoa and Chiniot areas of Punjab.
