A Victorian court has awarded $200,000 in damages to two brothers, one of whom owns the Thornbury Theatre, over “false and defamatory” comments on Facebook that linked them to political fraud in the Labor Party.
Brothers Aloke and Aakash Kumar took legal action against aspiring councillor Ravichandran Ragupathy, who stood for a seat on the Hume City Council last year, over posts he made on a Facebook page aimed at the Indian community.

Thornbury Theatre, April 30
It’s been 10 years since UNESCO designated April 30 as International Jazz Day. It’s been a lot longer than that since Australia had its own national jazz magazine. So the launch of biannual journal
Dingoon April 30 was deliberately symbolic.

In
Dingo’s case, the focus is Australian jazz within a global context. Melbourne musician Adam Simmons (one of the magazine’s creators, along with Cal Barry and Perri Winter) is a passionate advocate for the national jazz scene, and sees the magazine as a way of supporting the sector at all levels.
Andrew Farriss Will Have An INXS Surprise At His Shows
Andrew Farriss is planning on reinventing one of his INXS classics on his upcoming Australian tour.
Andrew has chosen one of INXS’ biggest hits and will turn the classic funk rock number one into a blues/country song. Andrew tells Noise11.com that “It’s a song that was a huge hit for INXS that I co-wrote. I am going to do what Bonnie Raitt did with it and just mess around with it a bit. I like the way she took it into a Bluesy feel. That’s something I am more and more interested in, the Blues style. I love Blues music and I think Country music, Blues and Rock are all interrelated. Especially Blues and Rock, they are related to Country Music. In a funny way they are like cousins and they aren’t too distant either”.
