The tragedy took place at 2pm on Wednesday afternoon
The boy who died following a fatal road accident in Longford has been named as four-year-old Charlie McDonagh.
The youngster lost his life after he was in collision with a van in the Palace Crescent area of the Ardnacassa housing estate in Longford town at around 2pm on Wednesday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem on his remains is due to take place today at Mullingar Regional hospital.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have witnessed the collision, are asked to contact them at 043-3350570.
Elderly man dies after road accident in the Midlands

An elderly man killed in road accident in the Midlands on Tuesday evening.
Gardaí are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the Gainstown area of Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, on Tuesday at approximately 7pm.
A man in his late 70s, the sole occupant of a van, was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains have been removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital. A forensic examination of the scene has taken place.
