POLURRIAN Hotel has united with environmental campaigners to keep the beach below it clean after problems with litter and barbecues were highlighted. The management at the hotel has agreed to look at installing bins at Polurrian Cove near Mullion and having them emptied weekly. It was also going to clean up the bin area and put signs up encouraging people to use them or take their litter home. Posting on his Facebook page, This Is A Rubbish Page, today, Rich Mulrayne from Mullion Surf Life Savers said he d had a positive day meeting with the management of the hotel which owns the beach.
On Monday around Garro Lane to the Gym and down Bumpy lane they also picked up Co-op bags, beer cans, water bottles, cardboard, sweet wrappers, a massive plastic bag and an abandoned cardigan among other random plastics. However Mr Mulryne said he had been heartened by responses to an earlier post about rubbish dumped on the beach saying he d woken up to posts from parents saying their youngsters had been down the beach last night and had independently cleared up after themselves. It’s so encouraging to hear that these guys and girls were able to go let off steam, be themselves and were still respectful to their surroundings, he said. Hopefully we can all work together to keep spreading the word and encouraging each other to look after our space.
