The Mumbai Local trains will be resuming its normal service from Friday. This comes after a review meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray which was attended by government, railway and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials. The Western Railway is planning to open local trains for all from Friday. A letter has been sent to all the station masters by the Traffic Control Department of the Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway regarding the same.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has finally decided to resume local train services in Mumbai for the general public. Western Railway has decided to start all its suburban services by increasing existing 1201 special services to 1367 w.e.f. Friday, January 29, 2021, a media update issued on Tuesday said.
CPRO Western Railway Sumit Thakur said, Passengers, as permitted by Ministry of Railways and Government of Maharashtra, are only allowed to travel by suburban trains. Passengers are advised to adhere to all norms, SOPs related to COVID-19 during the boarding, travel, and at the destination. Others are requested not to rush the station.

Mumbai local trains: Railways to adds 204 more local train on suburban network from Friday
An additional 204 special local train services will be run on the Mumbai suburban network from Friday. With this, the total number of services, currently available only for select sections of commuters, on the suburban network will go up to 2,985, the Central Railway and the Western Railway said in a joint statement on Tuesday.
The addition of 204 suburban services will lead to resumption of about 95 per cent of the total 3,141 local train services, which were being operated collectively by the CR and WR before the COVID-19 outbreak, railway officials said.
