The city of Springfield’s Election Office is looking to buy a new vote tabulation system and more than 70 new voting machines for local polling places.
Election Commissioner Gladys Oyola-Lopez said some of the voting machines in use now are 30 years old. Upgrading will make election operations smoother and more secure.
She spoke with WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill.

Funded by a $150,000 grant, The Franklin Regional Transit Authority has launched a taxi service to get people to late shift jobs in Franklin County and home again when there is no fixed route bus service.

Among the many nonprofit organizations that have struggled financially during the pandemic is the Zoo at Forest Park in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Revenues were greately reduced last season because of a delayed opening date, capacity restrictions, and the cancellation of money-making special events.
The zoo survived the winter when its gates were closed and reopened last weekend for a new season.
