The incident occurred on July 17 around 8:30 P.M. in Grizzly Flats.
Officer Opp was responding to a vehicle crash when a person approached him saying a nearby house was on fire where 5 kittens were likely trapped inside.
The officer called the Pioneer Fire Protection District and the El Dorado County Fire Protection District for help and immediately drove to the house.
When Officer Opp arrived on the scene he spoke to several kids who told him they didn t know where their sibling was after the fire broke out. When the first truck, and solo firefighter arrived, Officer Opp helped him pull a firehose around to the rear of the house and activated the water in order to knock down the flames, wrote CHP Placerville in their post. Together Officer Opp and the lone fire fighter were able to get the fire under control. Once additional fire personnel arrived, Officer Opp quietly left the scene and returned to his earlier task.
