Coimbatore: Unidentified men snatched five sovereigns of gold chain each from two women in two separate incidents in the city on Monday. According to the Karamadai police, K Rukmani, 80, is residing with her family members in a house on Anna Street at Karamadai. Around 1.30pm on Monday, Rukmani was alone at her residence when an unidentified man in mid-30s approached her on the pretext of searching for a house on rent. Suddenly, he snatched five sovereigns of gold chain from her neck and escaped. Based on Rukmani’s complaint, the Karamadai police registered a case against an unidentified chain snatcher under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.

The man approached the woman on the pretext of searching a house for rent, said the Karamadai police who have started investigation. In the second incident, a five-sovereign chain of S. Rithika (42) of Muthu Nagar at Eachanari was snatched by an unknown man when she was standing in a bus shelter on Monday. As per her complaint, the man came from behind and snatched her chain. He escaped on a two-wheeler kept standby by his accomplice, the complaint said. The Podanur police are investigating.
