Zeitgeist & Tucceri

Zeitgeist and Tucceri. The album name JIN MU  is taken from the Chinese Zodiac and translates to the elements of metal (Jin) and wood (Mu). This is essentially the concept of the record with Tucceri playing a selection of wooden and metal flutes and Zeitgeist on drums and cymbals.   This recording offers a soothing soundscape for listeners to tap out of the technological bombardment of social media and to simply listen, reflect, ponder and imagine. JIN MU is especially poignant at a time of rising tensions in Australia about the acknowledgment and rights of the indigenous peoples and an ongoing fight for the settlement of refugees in what is essentially a nation of immigrants.

The Pearly Shells

Steve Purcell, the ensemble is constantly adapting to its musical environment – from intimate trio settings, to big band RnB, and even a full swing orchestra.  Back in 2007 The Pearly Shells came to PBS and squeezed themselves into Studio 5 for a killer set of blues, roots and swing.  With Melbourne’s live scene re-opening, The Pearly Shells are back where they should be – hitting the pubs and clubs of our city just as they’ve done for a decade and a half.  On May 14 the full Pearly Shells Swing Orchestra hit the stage at Brunswick’s Jazzlab and to celebrate the gig we’re excited to return to 2007 when Melbourne was first discovering a group that would become one of our most revered roots ensembles.

Theatre review: First World Problems 3 0, Basement Theatre

Theatre review: First World Problems 3.0, Basement Theatre 19 Apr, 2021 11:13 PM 3 minutes to read Ayesha Heble delivered an emotional performance in opening segment Pearly Shells. Photo / John Rata Photography NZ Herald By: Ethan Sills After a year s break due to lockdown, Prayas Theatre has returned with the third instalment in their annual anthology series, First World Problems 3.0. The 2021 edition, written during lockdown and devised earlier this year, is the first I ve seen, but the first two entries have been the types of shows to quickly build word-of-mouth buzz and are still spoken of highly. Eighteen South Asian and Spanish migrant actors make up this year s cast, working with six new scripted and devised pieces, directed by FWP mastermind Sananda Chatterjee. The rapid pace of the show gives little room for an elaborate set, but Natasha Iyer s simple design allows the performers to take centre stage, as the stories hone in on a variety of diverse experiences.
