Westport Island votes June 8

SUSAN JOHNS Tue, 04/20/2021 - 7:30am Westport Island selectmen Monday night set the June 8 elections for noon to 6 p.m. at town hall. Officials expect a lot of absentee voting. They said they have already heard from people asking when absentee ballots will be available. Officials expect that to be May 8. Voters will pick a new second selectman for a three-year term. Candidates are Bailey Bartlett and Jeff Tarbox. Second Selectman Gerald Bodmer did not run. Mary Coventry is unopposed for a three-year term on the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12 board. And no one filed papers for a two-year term on the SVRSU board, Town Clerk Julie Casson said.

Westport Island getting web calendar

SUSAN JOHNS Tue, 02/09/2021 - 8:45am In Westport Island’s latest move to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the town website at westportisland.us is getting a calendar. Via UberConference Monday night, selectmen agreed to hire Pedro Guimaraes of Willow Light Studio in Westport Island for $80 to set up the calendar. He designed the town website, Deputy Municipal Agent Gaye Wagner said. Due to the pandemic, not everyone has ready access to the town office’s paper calendar that lists meeting dates and town hall reservations, Wagner said. “I think it’s a good idea,” First Selectman George Richardson said of the online one.
