Windfall: a third of big wind farms linked to tax havens

Nearly a third of Scotland’s biggest wind farms have owners with links to offshore tax havens in the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg, Guernsey and Jersey.  An investigation by The Ferret has also revealed that 39 of the largest 50 wind farms are ultimately owned outwith Scotland in England, Spain, France, Germany, Norway, China and elsewhere. Campaigners allege that the wind industry’s tax havens have deprived public services of “many millions” of pounds, while boosting private profits. Scotland’s renewable energy wealth is being “looted” by international tax avoiders, and profits “siphoned overseas”, they say. According to experts, wind farm ownership is “opaque” and “secretive”. The “bright green image” promoted by the renewable energy industry is “more a murky shade of grey”, says one.

Bangladesh made spectacular economic progress despite limited resources: ICCB United News of Bangladesh (UNB) Bangladesh, July 12 Bangladesh has made spectacular economic progress over the last five decades despite limited resources, International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB) President Mahbubur Rahman said Sunday. The GDP growth rate has reached a record high. Per capita income has also risen steadily, he said. Rahman made the remarks while presenting the Executive Board Report of ICC Bangladesh for 2020 in its annual council held virtually in the city. He said the country has achieved near self-sufficiency in food production for its population of 170 million. The country now even shoulders the burden of the world s largest refugee population of over 1 million Rohingyas who have fled persecution in neighbouring Myanmar, Rahman said.

1MDB, M sian govt sue KPMG for US$5 6 billion

KUALA LUMPUR: The government of Malaysia, Minister of Finance Inc (MoF Inc), 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and four of its subsidiaries have filed a suit against 44 partners of accounting firm KPMG, seeking US$5.6 billion for alleged breach of contract and negligence in auditing 1MDB s financial statements for the financial year between 2010 and 2012. Through the court e-filing system, the government, MoF Inc, 1MDB and its four subsidiaries, namely 1MDB Energy Holdings Limited, 1MDB Energy Limited, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Limited and Global Diversified Investment Company Limited, formerly known as 1MDB Global Investments Limited, as the plaintiffs filed the suit on July 6 in the High Court here through law firm Messrs Shearn Delamore & Co.
