Motorists traveling in the area of I-985 and SR 60/Queen City Parkway in Gainesville this weekend will likely experience traffic delays as work continues on bridge construction in the area.
Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) engineers have closed the I-985 northbound ramp until 6 a.m. Monday, March 8. In addition, GDOT has set up single-lane closures on the interstate itself for the entire weekend.
A detour has been set up that will re-route motorists along I-985 southbound to SR 53/Mundy Mill Road. Drivers will then be able to access I-985 northbound from the Mundy Mill Road on-ramp back to Queen City Parkway. Signs have been placed along the detour route.
GAINESVILLE – The Gainesville City Council approved a change to the city’s alcoholic beverage ordinance Tuesday evening, a change that better mirrors new state laws and reduces the frequency with which the city’s need to amend its local ordinances, while allowing greater latitude for Gainesville merchants during the coronavirus pandemic.
Included in the new regulation is a provision allowing for home delivery of alcoholic beverages and modifications to the regulations governing outdoor service of alcohol. “We’re modifying some our local regulations to assist our local restaurants as they’ve had to adjust in this world of COVID, trying to help them with the outdoor dining,” Gainesville City Manager Bryan Lackey told city council members.
GAINESVILLE – Two parcels at opposite ends of the massive Mundy Mill mixed use development likely will be exchanging zoning designations after receiving a unanimous recommendation for approval Tuesday evening from the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board.
The 605-acre development along Mundy Mill Road was originally approved in 2004 for 1148 single-family homes, 1235 condominiums, townhomes and apartments, over 800,000-square feet of office/warehouse space, 885,000-square feet of commercial/retail space and an elementary school.
Developer Scott Stringer has applied with the City of Gainesville for rezoning that would allow him to construct three hundred multi-family apartments currently approved for Pod E (a 17.25-acre tract at the most eastern edge of the complex), on a 17-plus acre site on the western edge of the complex (Pod I). Both pods are owned by Butler Property, LLC.
