Wednesday, Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) emphasized the importance of passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to fight “systemic racism.”
While speaking with MSNBC’s “Hallie Jackson Reports,” Jones called for putting an end to the “Jim Crow relic known as the filibuster.”
“We must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act uncompromised,” Jones declared. “It is a significant stride forward in the area of getting racial justice in policing and ending systemic racism. It is not by any stretch a panacea, but it represents a watershed moment. And I’m happy to hear that Congresswoman Karen Bass and Senator Tim Scott are talking about how to move this forward in the Senate on a bipartisan basis. But make no mistake we should not be watering down the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act if we can pass it through a repeal or at least a reformation of that Jim Crow relic known as a filibuster in the United States Senate, OK.”
Joe Manchin Denies Being Roadblock to Biden Agenda, Won t Be Part of Blowing Up Senate

State of the Union, Manchin was asked to respond to allegations from fellow Democrats that he has acted as a main roadblock to getting goals accomplished, while Democrats hold party majority in both chambers of Congress. I m not a roadblock at all, Manchin said in response. The best politics is good government. I can t believe that people believe that, if you just do it my way, that will give us the momentum to get through the next election, he said.
Frustrations are building among congressional Democrats as the party’s priorities pile up in the Senate.
Legislation granting statehood to Washington, D.C., approved by the House on Thursday, is just the latest big agenda item that is set to stall out on the other side of Capitol Hill.
In the majority-run House, Democrats are passing the party’s big priorities along party lines. In the Senate, Republicans can block most legislation with the filibuster, putting the focus on approving Biden nominees and moving smaller bipartisan measures.

Irritation between members of the same party over the differences between the chambers are a time-honored tradition, but that doesn’t make them any less annoying to those living through them.
