According to Shehu, the suspension followed a recommendation by Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to set up an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the management of the NPA.
Buhari also approved the appointment of Mohammed Koko to take over while “the investigation is carried out”.
The panel is to be headed by the director of maritime services in the ministry while the deputy director of legal in the same ministry will serve as secretary.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the Ministry of Transportation under Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for the setting up of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority,
The President has also approved that the Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman step aside while the investigation is carried out, while Mr Mohammed Koko will act in that position.
The panel is to be headed by the Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry and the Deputy Director, Legal of the same ministry will serve as Secretary.
Koko is former Executive Director, Finance and Administration, at NPA.
The Corporate Communications Department of NPA could not immediately confirm the development, but a source in the Ministry of Transport told The Guardian that, “the suspension is true.”
Usman, the first female MD of NPA, was first appointed on July 11, 2016, and reappointed last January for another five years tenure in office.
She is one of the founders of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, and is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She was the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2016. x
