Future of private BA, MA students hangs in balance Dawn 10 January 2021 Thousands of students, who are enrolled in higher education as private candidates, would no longer be able to continue their education after 31 March as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed the universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stop enrolment of private students for BA and MA examinations, writes Mohammad Ashfaq for Dawn. However, HEC and universities in the province have not developed any alternate system for private students, who are in-service or couldn’t get admission in colleges and universities for multiple reasons, according to sources. Conservationists visit zoo, find conditions mostly satisfactory - Newspaper

A delegation of the Pakistan Wildlife Foundation headed by its vice-chairman, Safwan Shahab Ahmad, and animal rights activists visited the sprawling facility in the provincial capital and looked at animals in enclosures and allied facilities. They will give final recommendations and scientific input to the management to improve conditions in the zoo. The wildlife experts and ecologists will be taken on board for finalising recommendations. The Peshawar zoo, which was opened to public in 2018, is in the spotlight due to the animal deaths. Karim KARACHI: The new set of office-bearers of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation who returned unopposed formally took over for the next term of four years (2020-2024) on Tuesday. Election Commissioner Ayub Bawany announced the names of 12 members of the committee at the annual general body meeting held at a local hotel. Strangely, only 20 members out of 258 were in attendance that left much to be desired. At the outset, the outgoing president Munawwar Hussain Shaikh expressed gratitude to all members who have worked with him, sponsors and media for their wholehearted support. He also welcomed the new president Jawed H. Karim and his committee and hoped they will carry forward the legacy and high standards set by honorary life chairman Ali Asghar Valika.

Five injured in scuffle between PAGD, independent candidates supporters at polling station in Poonch – Kashmir Reader

Srinagar: At least five persons were injured in a clash between supporters of two contesting candidates at a polling station in Salwah area of Mendhar-C during the last phase of DDC elections on Saturday. Official sources said that there was a clash between supporters of an independent candidate, Mohammad Ashfaq and a PAGD candidate Zeeshan Rana (NC) at the polling station. While polling continued at the polling station despite the clash, the injured were shifted to SDH Mendhar for first aid. Four of them have been identified as Mohammad Khaliq (56), Niaz Ahmed, Ifthikar Ahmed (Provisional NC Student union President) and Naseem Akhter, all residents of Salwah.
