Dubai: Eleven members from a single-family have been diagnosed with colon cancer in Oman due to hereditary factors, local media reported.
Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, consultant colon and rectal surgeon and head of general surgery at the Royal Hospital, said:” A total of 11 people from the same family has been diagnosed with colon cancer. We are certain it has something to do with hereditary factors,”.
According to the latest official statistics, the detected cancer cases among Omanis reached 21,002 including 10,723 among males and 10,279 among females. This constituted 51.1 per cent males and 48.9 per cent females. There are five most common cancer types among Omanis both males and females including breast cancer, non-hodgkin lymphoma, leukaemia, colorectal cancer and thyroid cancer.

Feared striker Baghdad Bounedjah scored deep into the second half as Al Sadd edged arch-rivals Al Rayyan 1-0 in their traditional Qatar Clasico clash at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
After a sensational first half performance from both the sides, Al Sadd dominated the final session with Bounedjah netting the winner in 83rd minute – once again proving his mettle following his brace in the Wolves’ 2-1 win over Al Arabi in the Amir Cup final on Friday.
