Saskatchewan’s health minister won’t commit to reversing a policy that left an immigrant mother stuck with a medical bill for her Saskatchewan-born infant.

A pair of Saskatchewan Health Authority officials told doctors during a weekly town hall meeting that experts recommended “numerous times” the inclusion of jail inmates and staff in the province’s COVID-19 vaccine prioritization, according to a leaked portion of a written exchange.
The province, however, continues to immunize inmates on age-based criteria.

Christine Mosquito says her son, an inmate at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre, said his COVID-19 symptoms came on in stages.
First, his chest became sore and his bones started to ache, he told her. Eventually, he lost both his sense of taste and smell.
That was three weeks ago and now, as an outbreak continues at the provincial centre, Mosquito is worried for the health of her son, and everyone else inside.

Regina NDP MLA Meara Conway wants the Saskatchewan Party government to scrap a proposed change to The Residential Tenancies Act that she said would make it easier to evict tenants.
The opposition party’s critic for social services said this is the opposite of what the government should be looking to do during a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which she said should be to protect and keep people at home to limit transmission.
Conway mentioned how she learned through conversations with organizations and community members that eviction numbers are steady in the province during the pandemic. She said it’s news that concerns her.
