Carlton sites could yield 2,000 homes

× LAND allocated for almost 2,000 homes in Barnsley Council’s development blueprint is set to be fought over by residents in a repeat of previous large-scale campaigns seen elsewhere in the borough after plans for a public consultation were revealed. Sites designated MU2 and MU3 in the council’s local plan - relating to land between Fish Dam Lane and Carlton Road, and Shaw Lane respectively - make up the long-awaited masterplan for Carlton. Other swathes of land - earmarked for housing, business and school use - have already been identified including Barnsley West, Goldthorpe, Hoyland North, Hoyland South, Hoyland West and Royston but Carlton’s is the final one awaiting adoption.

The child was in the back seat of a Range Rover Evoque which was involved in a collision with a Citroen C3 on Fish Dam Lane in Barnsley on Sunday. The Citroen driver, a 29-year-old man, was also seriously injured and arrested on suspicion of burglary and causing injury by dangerous driving. The girl was still in hospital on Monday, South Yorkshire Police said.
