NEW DELHI: Air India has asked its employees who have submitted their expression of interest for buying the airline to stay away from “policy matters” and any strategic issues that have a bearing on disinvestment.
Just over 200 employees, led by AI director (commercial) Meenakshi Mallik, had submitted their EOI for the airline earlier this week.
“…such employees are directed that they should not handle matters related to policy and other strategic issues of the company which may have a bearing on the disinvestment of AI or any information which may be used directly or indirectly in this regard. However, such employees may continue to handle the routine day-to-day business of the company…. Non-compliance will be viewed seriousły and necessary action as deemed fit will be undertaken against them,” AI said in an office order issued Thursday.

This is the Government’s second attempt at disinvesting its stake in the airline after the previous move in 2018 ended up without a bid.
In a boost to its efforts to disinvest stake in Air India, the Centre said Monday that it has received “multiple expressions of interest” for the debt-laden airline. These include bids from the Tata Group and a consortium comprising several of the airline’s employees and a US-based investment firm, sources told The Indian Express.

Tata Sons is expected to send in their expression of interest (EoI) for national carrier Air India on Monday, industry insiders said.
According to highly placed sources, Tata Sons, which owns the industrial conglomerate Tata Group, will send in a direct EoI to buy out the government s stake in the airline.
Notably, it was Tatas who started Air India prior to the nationalisation of the airline in the 1960s.
Besides the Tatas, a group of Air India employees, led by the airline s commercial director Meenakshi Mallik, is also expected to send in their EoI.
