Mental Health Services, Downtown Lima putting on awareness event
Celebrating You: For Mental Health Awareness: 2-8 p.m., Town Square, downtown Lima.
LIMA The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties is partnering with Downtown Lima, Inc. for a community event Saturday, Aug. 14.
“Celebrating You: For Mental Health Awareness” will feature live music from Lima Symphony Orchestra and Mixed Vibes, free food, guest speakers and mental health resources.
The event will run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Lima Town Square, starting with family-friendly events featured until 5:30 p.m.

Shawnee schools is back with emergency levy request

The $2.2 million, five-year levy before voters this spring would drastically improve the district’s financial status, allowing Shawnee schools to invest further in STEAM education, classroom technology, professional development and mental health services.
Emergency levy before voters
• Shawnee schools is asking voters for an emergency property tax levy of 4.58 mills, the equivalent of $2.2 million per year. Funds would benefit STEAM education, mental health services, professional development and classroom technology.
• The levy would be renewed every five years, half the length of the failed 2018 levy.
• District running a deficit due to loss of Tangible Personal Property Tax Reimbursement and state budget cuts. Voters last approved new money for Shawnee schools in 2004.
