Washington, DC Just Got a New Vegan Deli

Shares New vegan deli DC Vegan Delicatessen recently opened in Washington, DC. The shop is a brick-and-mortar concept of catering company DC Vegan Catering, which was founded in 2015 by Michael and Leah Moon. The new deli offers a full menu featuring shareables such as cauliflower wings and king trumpet calamari; deli sandwiches such as the Chickpea Cutlet Club with housemade chickpea cutlet and vegan bacon, and the Sausage Rapini with Italian sausage and grilled rapini; bowls such as the Beefy Bowl with braised jackfruit, fresh greens, and cauliflower rice; and salads such as Caesar or Classic Italian. The shop also offers specialty items in its dessert and deli cases.

Vegan Italian Deli Galioto s Opens In Little Italy View all 15 Nicole Galioto and her brother Nima Garos grew up in Little Italy, their extended family an integral part of a tight-knit community. Galioto still lives on Mulberry Street, and Garos, along with their buddy Karoosh Bakhtiar, runs Jajaja, the excellent plant-based Mexican restaurant with two locations downtown. In other words, if anyone can pull off an old-school Italian deli that s also 100% vegan, it s these guys. And so we get Galioto s Family Delicatessen, a classic-feeling NYC spot named in honor of the siblings father, who passed away not long ago and can be seen in several of the many family photos that are all over the place here. My dad was not the most healthy eater, says Nicole. Which is one of the reasons why we wanted to give the community a more health-conscious option for grabbing a bite or getting some groceries.

A Fully Vegan Old-School Italian Deli Just Opened in NYC

Shares Today, new vegan deli Galioto’s opened in New York City, serving plant-based versions of Italian deli classics. Created by the team behind popular vegan restaurant Jajaja Plantas Mexicana, the deli will specialize in a variety of sandwiches, including Impossible meat-based The Meatball Parm, mozzarella-stuffed The Eggplant, and The Portobello featuring dairy-free feta cheese. Galioto’s also offers a selection of pasta dishes and sides such as marinated artichokes, grilled eggplant, and giardiniera. For the morning crowd, a selection of vegan pastries made by Brooklyn-based French bakery L’imprimerie and coffee by local shop Nueva York are also available. In addition to a food menu, the deli sells a variety of Italian pantry items made by local NYC businesses.
