Family of M Farid Chowdhury, who went to take possession of the house of anti-British movement hero Deshbandhu Jatindra Mohan Sengupta at Rahamatganj in Chattogram on Monday after obtaining a court order, today said they did not grab the property, rather went to take possession of the property following legal process.
Farhad Chowdhury, Farid s son, made the claim at a press conference at Chattogram Press Club. Those who termed us land grabbers are running a propaganda, and are doing it intentionally for self-interest, he said.

HC orders halt to demolition of historic Shishubagh School in Ctg for 1 month

The High Court today issued a status quo (existing condition) for a month on the demolition of Shishubagh School, a historic structure with memories of the anti-British movement, at Rahmatganj in Chattogram.
The HC also issued a rule asking authorities concerned of the government to explain why their failure to protect the structure should not be declared illegal.
In the rule, the court also asked the government to show cause why it should not be directed to protect and preserve the structure as a heritage site.

Rana Dasgupta, a prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal, today submitted a memorandum to the administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) urging the government for necessary steps to turn the house of Deshbandhu Jatindra Mohan Sengupta into a museum to preserve the memory of anti-British movement heroes.

We submitted the memorandum to the CCC Administrator Khorshed Alam Sujan seeking his cooperation so that government takes necessary steps to turn the house into a museum as per the decision taken by Ministry of Cultural Affairs on July 9, 2018 and to declare the house and surroundings as heritage site as per Antiquities Act and Article 24 of the Constitution, he said.
