After months of recon, one takeout rule holds true: When it comes to delivery-friendly foods, pizza and Chinese still reign.
Enter Lazy Susan, the Chinese-American restaurant that seemed to pop up in Hayes Valley overnight, with a former Mister Jiu s sous chef churning out bowls of chewy chow mein noodles and steaming platters of orange chicken that was still crunchy upon arrival at our doorstep.
When San Francisco s performing arts eventually do reopen IRL, Lazy Susan, on Fell Street near the corner of Franklin, will be ideally situated for quick dinners pre-show in the vicinity of Civic Center. Until then, consider it a gift from the to-go food gods.

A restaurant group involved in Bay Area favorites like Crenn Dining Group and Humphry Slocombe opened a new San Francisco restaurant devoted to Chinese American cuisine on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Called Lazy Susan, the takeout- and delivery-only spot located inside SFJazz in Hayes Valley is helmed by chef Eric Ehler, recently known for his globally inspired, drinking-ready menu at Fort Point Beer Co.’s Mission District taproom.

San Francisco-based Salt Partners the team behind several upscale brands, including Crenn Dining Group, Horsefeather and Last Rites has opened Lazy Susan, a Chinese-American take-out and delivery restaurant, in Hayes Valley, according to a company press release. I had a lot of fun putting together this menu of dishes, some of which have been favorites of mine since childhood, Chef Eric Ehler, formerly of Fort Point Beer and Mister Jiu s, said about his menu offering 25 dishes, including Crab Rangoon, Lazy Susan Chicken Wings Wonton Soup and Orange Chicken. Focusing on flavors and textures that would stand up to takeout and delivery led to experimentation that allowed us to dial into sauces that provide full flavors and techniques that allow food to taste good not just directly upon preparation, but after time and travel.
